Physical and Chemical Properties: It is green monoclinic crystal. Loses six crystalline water when heated to 103℃. Soluble in water, aqueous solution is acidic; soluble in alcohol and ammonia.

 

Mechanism of nickel sulfate in chemical plating

The reaction process of chemical nickel plating is an autocatalytic redox process, and the reductants that can be applied in the plating solution are sodium hypophosphite, sodium borohydride, alkylamine borane and registers, etc. Among these reductants, sodium hypophosphite is the most important one. In these reductants to sodium hypophosphite used most, this is because of its cheap price, and the plating solution is easy to control, good corrosion resistance of the plated layer and other advantages. Chemical nickel plating solution in the main salt is nickel salt, generally used or nickel sulfate or nickel chloride, sometimes also used nickel sulfamate, nickel acetate and other inorganic salts. Early acidic nickel plating solution, nickel chloride, but nickel chloride will increase the stress of the plated layer, now most of the use of nickel sulfate. Currently there are patents that introduce the use of nickel hypophosphite as a source of nickel and hypophosphite, an advantage is to avoid the presence of sulfate ions, and at the same time in the replenishment of nickel salts, can make the accumulation of alkali metal ions to reach the minimum value. However, a problem exists in that the solubility of nickel hypophosphite is limited to only 35 g/L at saturation.The preparation of nickel hypophosphite is also a problem and is expensive. If the preparation method of nickel hypophosphite is mature and the solubility problem can be solved, this nickel salt will have a good prospect.

 

Production method

1、Nickel metal preparation: dissolve nickel metal with sulfuric acid, crystallize to get crude nickel sulfate crystals, dissolve the crystals, remove impurities and then concentrate to get battery grade nickel sulfate crystals. Add water in the reactor, then add sulfuric acid to formulate 30°Bé, then add nickel metal, and add nitric acid for reaction in several times. Reaction concentration reaches 48 ~ 50 ° Bé for crystallization, filtration, water to wash the crude crystals and add water to dissolve into 30 ° Bé, then add barium carbonate to neutralize the free acid, and then add hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the divalent iron and hydrolysis, purification of the solution after clarification, add a small amount of sulfuric acid to adjust the pH 3 ~ 4, and then concentrate the crystals, centrifugal dewatering, to produce nickel sulfate.

Uses

1, used in electroplating industry, is the main nickel salt of electroplating nickel and chemical nickel, is also the source of nickel metal ions, can dissociate nickel ions and sulfate ions in the electroplating process.

2, printing and dyeing industry for the production of phthalocyanine blue complexing agent and reducing dyes mordant.

3, the pharmaceutical industry for the production of vitamin C oxidation reaction catalyst.

4, It is the catalyst for hydrogenation of fats and oils in the production of hardened oil.

5, used in inorganic industry for the production of other nickel salts such as: nickel sulfate salt, nickel oxide, nickel hydroxide, nickel carbonate and so on.
